An awareness talk on Cyber Safety and Digital etiquette was organized by 8 J&K Girls Bn NCC Jammu and Science Club of GDC Bishnah, on the occasion of Safer Internet Day. The aim of the program was to educate students about the safe, responsible, and ethical use of the internet and digital technologies. With the increasing dependence on digital platforms for education, communication, and entertainment, it has become essential to make users aware of potential cyber threats and the ways to protect themselves online. The session aimed to sensitize participants to the importance of cyber safety and to equip them with practical knowledge to navigate the digital world securely. The whole programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the College, who urged all students to be mindful of their digital footprint, respect others in online spaces, and protect their personal data. The awareness talk was delivered by Dr Kusum, ANO NCC and resource person of the day. The speaker shared real-life examples and practical insights to help participants better understand the consequences of unsafe online behaviour. Youth Parliament on “Budget Pe Charcha” Organised at Government Degree College,
Bishnah
Government Degree College (GDC) Bishnah, through its Department of Political Science,
under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organised a
Youth Parliament on the theme “Budget Pe Charcha” on 9th February 2026.
The programme was organised under the able leadership of the Principal, GDC Bishnah, Dr.
Shallu Samyal ji, whose guidance and encouragement played a pivotal role in the successful
conduct of the event. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Dr. Shallu Samyal ji,
highlighted the significance of the Youth Parliament as a vital platform for nurturing
democratic values, leadership qualities, and active participation among the youth. She
encouraged the students to remain informed, confident, and responsible citizens,
emphasising that such forums help develop critical thinking, public speaking skills, and a
deeper understanding of parliamentary democracy.
Prof. Shrotika Rajput formally welcomed all the dignitaries and participants.
A total of 15 student participants actively took part in the Youth Parliament and showcased
remarkable skills in presentation, confidence, critical thinking, and parliamentary debate. The
deliberations were insightful and reflected a deep understanding of the Union Budget and its
socio-economic implications.

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Government Degree College Bishnah organized an expert lecture on “Foundations of Artificial Intelligence” as a part of series of activities under “AI for ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT” on 2nd February 2026 with the objective of sensitizing students and faculty about the fundamentals, scope, and emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The programme was conducted under the able aegis of the Principal of the College, Dr Shallu Samyal, whose constant encouragement and visionary leadership continue to promote innovation, research orientation, and adoption of modern technologies among students.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr Sonika Khajuria, Convenor, IIC, who formally welcomed the resource person, faculty members, and students. In her address, she highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence in today’s digital era and emphasized the role of IIC in fostering innovation, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary learning within the institution.
The resource person for the lecture was Prof Rohit Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Prof Gupta delivered an insightful and well-structured lecture on the Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, covering key concepts such as the evolution of AI, basic principles, types of AI, machine learning fundamentals, real-life applications, and ethical considerations. His lecture helped demystify AI for beginners and inspired students to explore this rapidly growing field.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating by asking relevant questions and sharing their curiosity about AI-driven technologies. Prof Gupta patiently addressed the queries, making the interaction lively and intellectually stimulating. The Road Safety Club in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the college organized a Road Safety
Awareness Rally on 31st January 2026 with the objective of spreading awareness about road safety
rules and responsible behaviour among transporters and the general public.
The rally commenced from the college campus and culminated at Matador Stand. A large number of
students actively participated in the rally, demonstrating enthusiasm and social responsibility.
During the rally, students sensitized transporters and commuters about various road safety
measures, traffic rules, and the importance of safe driving practices.
The participants raised impactful slogans highlighting road safety, discipline, and accident
prevention. An interactive session was also held where students engaged with transporters,
answered queries, and emphasized the need to follow traffic regulations for the safety of all road
users.

In compliance to the directions issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Law & Order),
Jammu, Government Degree College Bishnah organized an awareness programme under the
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on 29th January 2025. The programme was jointly organized by
the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Committee and the Anti-Drug Club of the College to spread
awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a drug-free
society.
The event was conducted under the aegis of the Principal, Dr. Shallu Samyal, who emphasized
the vital role of educational institutions in safeguarding youth against substance abuse and
nurturing responsible citizenship.
The programme featured expert talks by distinguished resource persons from various
departments. Dr. Ayesha, Medical Officer, Sub District Hospital Bishnah, highlighted the
adverse physical and psychological consequences of drug addiction and stressed the
importance of early intervention and de-addiction support services. PSI Naweed Muneem from
Police Station Bishnah sensitized students about the legal implications of drug abuse under the
NDPS Act and encouraged them to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Dr. Inderjeet
Kour, Teacher, School Education Department, spoke on the role of education, moral values, and
early awareness in preventing drug addiction. Ms. Ritika Dogra from the Department of Social
Welfare apprised students of various government welfare and rehabilitation schemes available
for individuals affected by substance abuse.
The significance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre)
was also highlighted during the programme, emphasizing coordinated efforts among different

The coordinated and managed by the NSS and 8 J&K NCC units of GDC Bishnah. The
celebrations commenced with the flag unfurling ceremony by Dr. Shallu Samyal,

Eco-Club of Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah organised a Plantation-cum-Maintenance Drive in the botanical garden of the institution to commemorate 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram.” The programme was held under the kind patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the College.
The drive witnessed active participation from students and faculty members of the Eco-Club, who carried out plantation and maintenance activities in the botanical garden. to commemorate the martyrdom of the Chaar Sahibzadas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The
event was organised with the objective of honouring the supreme sacrifices made by the
Sahibzadas and of sensitising students about their unparalleled courage, faith, and
commitment to righteousness.

awareness rally on HIV/AIDS on 26th December 2025, in alignment with the World AIDS Day
theme “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.” The rally witnessed
enthusiastic participation from students, NSS volunteers, and faculty members, who marched
through the campus and adjoining areas carrying placards and raising awareness slogans
highlighting prevention, responsible behaviour, and compassion towards people living with
HIV/AIDS.

AAs part of the World AIDS Day celebrations, the Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Bishnah organized a Poster Making Competition on HIV/AIDS on 20th December 2025. The event was conducted under the able supervision of the Principal of the college, Dr. Shallu Samyal, and was efficiently coordinated by the Nodal Officers of the Red Ribbon Club, Dr. Anshu Sawhney and Dr. Ashma Gupta.
A total of ten students participated enthusiastically in the competition and showcased their creativity and awareness through impactful posters on the theme “OVERCOMING DISRUPTION, TRANSFORMING THE AIDS RESPONSE” highlighting the causes, prevention, and social impact of HIV/AIDS. The activity aimed to sensitize students and the audience about the importance of awareness, early prevention, and the need to eliminate the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
The competition was judged by Dr. Shrotika Rajput, Head, Department of Political Science, and Dr. Koushal Kiran, Head, Department of Urdu. The judges appreciated the efforts of the participants and evaluated the posters on the basis of creativity, clarity of message, and overall presentation.
The winners of the competition were Mr. Krishan (Semester V), who secured the first position, followed by Ms. Ariba Ansari (Semester III), who achieved the second position, while the third position was bagged by Ms. Geetika Devi (Semester V).

Dr. Shallu Samyal, addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of constitutional

Following the principal’s address, Dr. Sunil Kumar Saliada from the Department of Hindi
administered the Constitution Day Pledge, reaffirming the commitment of students and staff to

A significant part of the programme was the release of the College Bulletin, Volume 1
(January–June Session 2025). This inaugural edition highlights the academic accomplishments,

proceedings for the release were conducted by Dr. Koushal Kiran Thacker, Department of Urdu
and Convenor of the College Magazine Committee.

As part of the celebrations, an Inter-College Symposium on the theme “Role of Youth in

symposium proceedings. Students representing GDC Ramgarh, GDC R.S. Pura, and Dogra

The symposium was adjudicated by an esteemed panel comprising Dr. B. B. Anand, Retired
Principal from the Higher Education Department, and Dr. Seema Malpotra, Associate Professor
of English, GCW Parade. Both judges appreciated the participants for their clarity of thought,
depth of understanding, and oratory skills.
The results were announced by Dr. Sapna Bhargav, Faculty, English. Ms. Shivani from GDC
Bishnah secured the First Prize with her articulate and impactful views on youth responsibility.
The Second Prize was awarded to Mr. Sarabjeet Heer from GDC R.S. Pura, who impressed the
audience with his confidence and clarity. The Third Prize was bagged by Ms. Avni Angotra from
Dogra Degree College, whose reflective presentation added depth to the discussion. All

The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajeev Bhagat, in his address, congratulated the college for organizing
such a meaningful programme. He highlighted the integral role of youth in shaping the future of

their everyday lives. Dr. Bhagat urged students to stay informed about their fundamental rights

under the directions of the 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, Jammu, a contingent of cadets from
the 8 J&K Girls Battalion at Government Degree College, Bishnah, visited the residence of
Vir Chakra Awardee Havildar Tilak Raj (VrC) at Village Arnia, Tehsil Bishnah, District
Jammu, on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The visiting team was accompanied by Dr.
Kusum, CTO, and Dr. Pallavi Bansal, Faculty Member, GDC Bishnah. The programme
was organized under the guidance of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal, GDC Bishnah.
Havildar Tilak Raj (VrC) served with Alfa Company, 6 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles as the
Heavy Machine Gun Detachment Commander at Dalunangon on the Line of Actual Control
during Operation Savage (Sikkim). He was awarded the Vir Chakra on January 26, 1993, for
displaying extraordinary courage, resolute duty, and making the supreme sacrifice while
fighting the enemy. His gallant action saved the lives of his comrades and prevented
significant loss of critical defence infrastructure.
The visit was organised under the theme “Veer Samagam: Visit and Interaction with Veer
Naris/Matas”, aimed at honouring the sacrifice of fallen soldiers and expressing gratitude to
their families. During the interaction, cadets engaged with his wife, Smt. Neelam Kumari,
and paid respectful homage to Havildar Tilak Raj for his exemplary bravery and service to
the nation. A memento from 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, GDC Bishnah, was presented to
Smt. Neelam Kumari as a mark of respect and remembrance.

Pledge-Taking Ceremony Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on 20.11.2025 as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). The event aimed to spread awareness about the ill effects of substance abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among students and faculty members.
The pledge was administered by Dr.Geeta Lakhotra NSS programme officer who emphasized the importance of educational institutions in preventing substance abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles. The ceremony saw enthusiastic participation from students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff.

Students of the Red Cross Unit of Government Degree College, Bishnah, visited the Sub-District
Hospital (SDH), Bishnah on 11th November 2025, where a Surgical-cum-Medical Camp was
being organized by the Shri Onkar Singh Memorial Trust. The week-long camp, scheduled from
9th to 15th November 2025, aims to provide free medical and surgical treatment to patients
from Bishnah and adjoining areas.
The camp is being led by Dr. K. S. Charak, MS (Surgery), FRCS (UK), who attained Fellowship
from the World Health Organization (WHO), and served as Head of Department, ESI Hospitals,
New Delhi. A renowned surgeon and son of the soil, Dr. Charak retired as Chief of Surgery,
Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, and has been spearheading such
humanitarian health initiatives through the Shri Onkar Singh Memorial Trust since October
2003. This marks the 70th Surgical-cum-Medical Camp organized by the Trust, dedicated to
providing quality healthcare to the underprivileged.
During the visit, students of GDC Bishnah had an inspiring interaction with Dr. Charak, who
shared his professional journey, experiences in surgical excellence, and his commitment to
serving his native region. The students also visited various hospital wards and the operation
theatre (OT), gaining valuable insight into surgical procedures, patient management, and
community health service delivery.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Cyber Security Cell of Government Degree College, Bishnah, successfully concluded the Three-Day Workshop on “Cyber Security” on November 8, 2025. The final day’s proceedings focused on the theme “Cyber Crime Investigation and Preventive Measures,” highlighting practical insights into the detection, reporting, and prevention of cybercrimes.
The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Koushal Kiran, Head, Department of Urdu, who greeted the distinguished resource person, dignitaries, and participants.
The resource person for the day, Inspector Bhupinder Singh Sasan, currently posted as an Investigating Officer at the Cyber Police Station, Jammu, delivered a comprehensive and thought-provoking lecture on the various dimensions of cyber-crime investigation. Drawing from his professional experience, Inspector Sasan elaborated on real-life cases of cyber fraud, social media misuse, phishing, and online financial scams. Inspector Sasan also discussed the functioning of cyber police units, the legal framework governing cyber-crimes. His practical examples and interactive engagement with the audience offered valuable takeaways for both students and faculty.
A key highlight of the day was the participation of students from Boys Higher Secondary School, Bishnah, and students and faculty from Dogra Degree College, Jammu who were specially invited to attend the workshop and gain exposure to the fundamentals of cyber safety and ethical online practices. Mr. Bhat also elaborated on emerging digital concerns such as spyware, data leaks, and hacking on social media platforms. He explained how spyware infiltrates devices to extract personal information, how insecure applications can lead to data breaches, and how cybercriminals exploit social media for identity theft and phishing scams. His interactive and practical approach kept the audience engaged and highlighted the vital importance of cultivating awareness and responsibility in digital spaces.
Participants were also educated about the procedures for reporting cyber crimes and the importance of prompt action and cooperation with cyber authorities to prevent further harm.

The event was organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to celebrate his remarkable contribution to national integration and educational reforms.

an Innovation Bootcamp on 9th October 2025 under the aegis of IQAC and the patronage of
Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the College. The event aimed at fostering innovative thinking,
creativity, and entrepreneurial skills among students, in alignment with the vision of
promoting a culture of innovation in higher education institutions.
A team from the IIM Jammu Incubation Centre visited the college and interacted with

The Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College, Bishnah, organized a Nukkad Natak on HIV/AIDS on 9th October 2025 in the adopted village Ratnal, Bishnah, under the patronage of the Principal, Dr. Shallu Samyal. The event formed an integral part of the Red Ribbon Club’s annual activities aimed at promoting awareness about health, hygiene, and the prevention of life-threatening diseases such as HIV/AIDS among the community.

The Sarpanch of Ratnal village extended full cooperation and arranged for the gathering of villagers at the Panchayat Ghar, where the students presented the Nukkad Natak with great enthusiasm and social commitment.

IQAC and Art of Living Jammu Commence 5-Day Yoga Wellness Retreat for Staff
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in collaboration with the Art of Living Jammu,
launched a rejuvenating five-day workshop titled “A Yoga Wellness Retreat for Staff” from
20th to 24th May 2025. This health-focused initiative aimed to promote well-being, reduce
workplace stress, and encourage a balanced lifestyle among both teaching and non-
teaching staff.
The retreat saw enthusiastic participation from staff members across departments, who
engaged in various yoga kriyas, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices. The
sessions were led by Ms. Sushma Sharma, a seasoned Art of Living trainer and wellness
expert, who emphasized the mental and physical benefits of integrating yoga into daily
routines.
The program received high appreciation from Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of GDC Bishnah,
who lauded the IQAC for organizing such a meaningful wellness initiative.
To reinforce the collaboration under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a significant initiative was undertaken between PSPS Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, and Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah. As part of this effort, nearly 45 students from GDC Bishnah visited GCW Gandhi Nagar on 30th April 2025 to gain practical exposure to moot court practices, thereby enhancing experiential learning and promoting inter-institutional engagement.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Paramjeet Singh from the Department of Political Science. In his address, Prof. Singh emphasized the importance of moot courts as a motivational tool for the intellectual growth and overall development of students.
Following the introductory session, a moot court case was presented on the theme “Abrogation of Article 370 in the State.” Students actively participated in the enactment, with Arti Lakhotra assuming the role of the judge, while Mohd. Yasin and Nitish Dogra played the roles of advocates. The advocates presented their arguments based on the case facts, after which the judge delivered her verdict following a detailed discussion. The session was observed with great enthusiasm and curiosity by all participants.
It was unanimously agreed that such events will be organized regularly to benefit students through practical exposure and academic collaboration. The programme was jointly coordinated by the IQAC convenors of both institutions, Dr. Yash Paul Sharma and Professor Shrotika Rajput. The NSS wing, in collaboration with the Eco Club, observed World Earth Day 2025 by
organizing a series of activities under the theme,’ Our Planet Our Power’ under the patronage of
Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. On the first day, a demonstration on the activity, ‘Art
out of Waste,’ was conducted, where students were taught how to create artifacts from waste
paper. On the second day, a slogan-writing event was held, in which ten students participated.
An awareness rally on the importance of ‘Save Earth ‘was also taken out within the college
campus by fifty enthusiastic students. During the rally, students raised slogans advocating for the
conservation of Earth and its inhabitants. Along with their active participation in these activities,
students also participated in the Green Olympaid where they won laurels for the college. The
students Muskan Chandan of semester-4, Ariba Ansari and Mohd. Arbaas of semester-2 of ECO
Club were felicitated by Principal Dr.Shallu Samyal for being awarded with distinction in ‘
Green Olympiad for Youth ’conducted by Teri through online platform. The entire event of

Harassment (CASH) of Government Degree College, Bishnah (GDC Bishnah), organized a
highly impactful awareness lecture on "Women’s Rights Against Sexual Harassment", as part
of its ongoing initiatives to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive academic environment.The
keynote speaker for the session was Adv. D.K. Singh, Senior Advocate and President of the
Bar Association, Bishnah, who shared his valuable insights on the legal rights and protections
available to women under Indian law. His session emphasized the importance of awareness,
legal literacy, and institutional mechanisms in combating sexual harassment, and was well-
received by faculty and students alike.The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Shallu
Samyal, Principal of GDC Bishnah, who in her address underscored the role of educational
institutions in empowering students, especially women, through informed discourse and

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Dr.Ravender Kumar Tickoo ,
Principal of GCW Parade Ground Jammu and Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of GDC
Bishnah,on 19th April 2025. This marks the beginning of a significant collaboration aimed at
enhancing educational opportunities for both institutions.The MOU was signed in the
presence of senior faculty members Dr.Seema Malpotra,Dr. Kewal Krishan Manhas, Dr.
Vikas Dogra and the IQAC coordinators from both institutions professor Dr. Surinder parihar
and Prof. Shrotika Rajput.

On 11th April 2025, the 4th semester students of Government Degree College, Bishnah organized a heartfelt farewell party to honor and bid goodbye to their seniors of the 6th semester. The college ambience was beautifully decorated, creating a festive and emotional atmosphere.

The Department of Environmental Sciences at Govt. Degree College Bishnah organized an Awareness Program on the Importance of Waste Segregation followed by a Cleanliness Drive within the college campus. During the awareness session, students were informed about the significance of segregating waste into dry and wet categories at the point of generation. Bishnah, March 3, 2025: The JK AIDS Control Society, under the Department of Health and Medical Education, J&K, in collaboration with Savraj Production, Jammu, the Red Ribbon Club of GDC Bishnah, and the Anti-Drug Club of GDC Bishnah, organized a powerful Nukkad Natak (street play) to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, misconceptions, and available support systems.

The performance also highlighted the AIDS toll-free helpline number, ensuring that those in need know where to seek help. The NSS Wing and Red Cross Committee in collaboration with the civil defence Jammu inaugurated a Civil Defence Training Camp today, February 17, under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. The event began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Koushal Kiran, Convenor of the Red Cross Committee. During the inauguration ceremony, the instructor enlightened volunteers about the formation of Civil Defence, its role in society, and its usefulness in everyday life. Deputy Controller Ms. Anita Pawar addressed the students about the essence of Civil Defence Training. Along with Dy. Controller Anita Pawar, the team of civil Defence Shri. The awareness program, observed globally, aims to raise awareness and promote the safe and responsible use of the internet, particularly focusing on children, women, and young people.
During the event, a video on internet awareness was screened, followed by a question-and-answer session. The program was conducted under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college.

The Red Ribbon Club of the college, in collaboration with the Women Development Cell, organized an
extension lecture and interactive session with a team of hospital staff, including doctors and
pathological experts. The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness among students
about critical health topics such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and women's health issues.
Over 50 students actively participated in the session, which provided valuable insights and fostered
meaningful discussions. The whole program was organised under the noble guidelines of Dr.Shallu
Samyal, Principal of the college. The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Ratika Sharma and Dr.
Ashma Mahajan, Nodal Officers of the Red Ribbon Club.

January is annually dedicated to Road Safety Awareness. In this regard,
the Road Safety Club, in collaboration with the NSS Wing of GDC
Bishnah, observed a two-day series of events on Road Safety Month
from January 23 rd to 24 th , 2025. The events included an essay writing
competition on the topic “Importance of Traffic Awareness in the
Current Age” and a screening of a movie on traffic signals, followed by a
quiz contest. The events were held under the guidance of Principal Dr.
Shallu Samyal. Approximately fifty students participated, enriching their
knowledge on the subject. Dr. Sapna Bhargav, Convenor of the Road
Safety Club, addressed the students on the pressing issue of traffic chaos
and awareness. The event provided students with an opportunity to
learn about traffic rules and their observance. The program concluded
with a vote of thanks, and students were instructed to adhere to traffic

The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Bishnah organized a series of engaging activities aimed at
raising awareness about HIV/AIDS among students. The events, which included a poster
making competition and an awareness human chain rally, were held on 23rd January 2025 at
the college premises.The poster making competition saw enthusiastic participation from
students, showcasing their creativity and understanding of HIV/AIDS awareness through
compelling artworks. Concurrently, the awareness human chain rally brought together
students and faculty in a symbolic gesture of solidarity and commitment towards spreading
awareness about the disease.
The judging panel for the poster making competition comprised of esteemed faculty
members: Prof. Sania Hamid, Associate Professor in Botany, and Prof. Sonika Khajuria,
Assistant Professor in Chemistry.
After careful evaluation, the winners of the poster making competition were announced.

association, is pleased to observe National youth Day 2025 under the theme Youth for
sustainable future shaping the nation with resilience and responsibility. This year’s

Right association was the guest of Honour..The cross-country event witnessed
enthusiastic participation from students of Dogra Law College, GDC R.S. Pura, GDC
Vijaypur, and Higher Secondary School, Bishnah (boys and girls).The event
commenced from the main entrance of GDC Bishnah, covering the area of Bana Chak,
and concluded at the same point. The entire event lasted approximately one hour.
Following the race, a prize distribution ceremony was held. Principal Ma’am delivered a

GDC Bishnah won third place in the tournament In boys, salman and Govind of higher
secondary Bishnah took first and second place, and third won by Rahul Kumar of GDC,

vote of thanks extended to dignitaries, participants and media persons. The entire event

We are pleased to announce the remarkable achievements of our two college students, Ms. Sivani and Mr. Yaseen, who participated in the prestigious 23rd Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Debate Competition, organized by the Indian Institute of Public Administration J&K Regional Branch, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and the University of Jammu. The event was held at the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
The debate competition witnessed active participation from 27 teams, representing various colleges, university departments, and institutions from across the Jammu region. Both of our students competed admirably among these diverse teams.
We are proud to share that Ms. Sivani won the First Cash Prize of Rs. 7,000 along with a Merit Certificate for her outstanding performance in the debate. On the other hand, Mr. Yaseen also participated and received a Participation Certificate for his contribution to the competition.
Bishnah, Jammu – 31st December 2024: The Department of Punjabi at Government Degree
College (GDC) Bishnah, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC),
organized a special screening of the movie Chaar Sahibzaade to mark the martyrdom of the
Four Sahebzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The event, held on 31st December 2024, aimed to
honour the supreme sacrifice of these brave sons and to keep their legacy alive for future
generations.
Under the able guidance of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of GDC Bishnah, the event was a
resounding success. Dr. Samyal’s leadership and support were instrumental in ensuring the
smooth execution of the program. The IQAC, led by Prof. Nisar Ahmad Bhulla, Convenor,
played a key role in organizing the event, ensuring all logistics were well-managed.
The screening witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff members
of the college, who gathered to remember the unparalleled courage, resilience, and sacrifice
demonstrated by the Four Sahebzadas. The movie Chaar Sahibzaade beautifully depicted the
bravery and commitment of the Sahebzadas to their faith, justice, and righteousness, leaving a
profound impact on all attendees.
Dr. Baljit Raina, President of the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Jammu, graced the occasion as the
special guest and shared his insightful reflections on the significance of remembering these
sacrifices in the present day. His address underscored the timeless values of courage, faith,
and justice upheld by the Sahebzadas.
The event was formally introduced and coordinated by Dr. Kusum, Head of the Department

special event held on 31st December. The event was attended by dignitaries, faculty

December 10 th with a theme”Our Rights, Our Future Right now” under the patronage of the
Principal “ Dr. Shallu Samyal “ . The event was celebrated with the middle-wing students of
Government Higher Secondary School Bishnah.NSS volunteers raised awareness among the
students about the significance of Human Rights Day.The students listened attentively and
posed thoughtful questions to the volunteers regarding the celebration.The head of the
middle school encouraged the young participants to engage in such awareness programs,

Career counseling cell and NSS wing of GDC Bishnah organized a special counseling
session on Army recruitment schemes like NDA, CDS, Agniveer etc. Major Rohit, a
medical officer in the Indian Army, was the resource person. He sensitized the students
on how to join the Army, elaborating on the required percentage and qualifications.
Major Rohit also informed the students about the recent changes inducted in the Army’s
recruitment process.
Major Rohit enlightened the students about various aspects of the Army. Following the
lecture, an interactive session was conducted, where students had the opportunity to
clear their doubts on various issues.

The Institution Innovation Cell (IIC) of Government Degree College (GDC) Bishnah in
collaboration with Department of Botany and Zoology organized an insightful visit for its
students to the Kisan Mela held at the Sher-e-KashmirUniversity of Agricultural Sciences and
Technology (SKUAST), Jammu on 21st November 2024.The event was aimed at exposing students
to the latest developments in agriculture and encouraging innovation in the sector.
During the visit, students explored a wide range of stalls showcasing advanced scientific tools,
technologies, and innovative agricultural practices such as hydroponics, sericulture etc.The
exhibition provided hands-on experience and demonstrations on sustainable farming, crop
management, and modern agricultural techniques,Agri Startups, Farm Mechanization, Digital
Agriculture, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Agriculture, Livestock management,
Veterinary Sciences, Microbiology,Apiculture,Use of Drones in agriculture Industry-Academia

highlighted the significance of Vasant Panchami, emphasizing its importance in fostering learning and

The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp where Students and faculty offer prayers to
the goddess Saraswati. The chants of holy mantras by students of Music department resonated in the air
made the whole environment divine.

celebrated Constitution Day with great enthusiasm on 26th November 2024. The event featured a
symposium on the significance of the Indian Constitution, which saw the participation of six speakers
who eloquently shared their perspectives on the importance of this landmark document in shaping the
nation.
The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly, and the
Guest of Honour, an Ex-Member of the Legislative Assembly. The Principal of GDC Bishnah Dr.
Shallu Samyal also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the relevance of the Constitution in
fostering equality, justice, and democracy.

emphasized to pay tribute to Dr. Ambedkar and the members of the Constituent Assembly who
worked tirelessly for nearly three years to draft a document that could govern a country as diverse as

NSS Wing of GDC, Bishnah attended the Rashtriya Kissan Summit held at Sher-a
Kashmir Agricultural university Chatta today on 22nd November under the patronage
of Principal of the college Dr. Shallu Samyal. Around 40 students participated in this
mela. During summit Dr. Manmohan Sharma, professor of Biotechnology delivered a
lecture on career making in an agricultural stream and the lecture followed by the
interactive session wherein students cleared their doubts and apprehensions. Dr.
Rashmi Singh, commissioner Secretary to Government, Higher Education addressed
the students and emphasis placed upon the deliverance of skill oriented education.

In a proactive effort to raise awareness about the alarming rise of drug abuse and its impact on public health, Department of Zoology, Govt Degree College Bishnah, organised a poster making competition on the theme “-Drug Abuse -A Serious Health Concern “. The event which took place in the Zoology lab on 14.11.2024 invited students of all the semesters to contribute to their artwork and ideas on one of society’s most pressing issues. 10 students from science stream participated in the competition. The judges for the competition were Dr Sania Hamid, HOD Botany and Dr Kusum , HOD Punjabi. Ms.Ariba Ansari bagged the first prize, second prize was bagged by Neharika Charak and third prize was shared by Mohd Asif and Rinkal Kumari. The Head of the Department Dr Vasudha Chaudhari briefed the students about the significant health risks posed by the substance use and the importance of prevention, treatment and support for affected individuals. Jammu: On November 11, 2024, to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev
Ji, the Punjabi Sahit Sabha of the PG Department of Punjabi University, Jammu,
organized an Inter-College Poetry Recitation Competition. The event saw the
enthusiastic participation of 25 students from various colleges across the Jammu
region, who showcased their literary talents in poetry recitation.
The competition was honored by the presence of Padma Shree Mohan Singh, the
eminent Dogri writer, who was the Chief Guest. The esteemed panel of judges
included Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, Chief Librarian at Dhanvantri Library, University of
Jammu, and S. Ajit Singh Mastana, a renowned Punjabi writer from Jammu &
Kashmir.
Among the talented participants, Mr. Nikhil Lakhotra, a first-semester BA student
from Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah, stood out by securing the
third position in the prestigious competition. In addition to him, Mr. Nitin Lakhotra
(also from BA Semester 1) and Ms. Simran Bhagat (BA Semester 3) earned
consolation certificates for their impressive performances, reflecting the high level
of dedication and talent nurtured at GDC Bishnah.
The success of the students was largely due to the mentorship and guidance
provided by Prof. Shallu Sambyal, Principal of GDC Bishnah, whose leadership
played a key role in preparing the students for the competition. The students were
also supported by Dr. Kusum, Head of the Punjabi Department at GDC Bishnah,
who accompanied them to the event, ensuring their smooth participation.

Two day's workshop cum demonstration on “ How to prepare Vertical Garden from discarded plastic waste” was conducted by Eco-club and Institute Innovation Council of GDC,Bishnah under the able guidance of Dr.Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. On this occasion, Dr.Nazia Rasool Latifi, a renowned environmentalist and HOD, Department of Environmental Sciences, GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu was invited as resource person On day 1 ,She delivered an interactive session on raising Vertical Garden. She briefed students about the multiple advantages of Vertical Gardens like it can be raised on any vertical space,improves ambient quality and enhances aesthetics of the place.Students and faculty members enthusiastically participated in the whole event. On day 2, PET bottles were given shape of planters and were mounted on the walls which was subsequently followed by soil preparation and plantation. In response to escalating crisis of drug abuse effecting individuals, youth and families in the society, Red Cross Club and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Club of GDC Bishnah in Collaboration with J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM) State Level Cordinating Agency (J&K) organised an awareness Program on the topic “Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures” for the students of Govt. Degree College Bishnah on 15 th Oct., 2024. More than 100 students attended the program with full zeal and enthusiaum. Ms. Kimi Parihar, Project Cordinator State Level Cordinating Agency introduced the resource person and grounded upon the importance of today’s Program. The resource person of the program was Dr. Rachna Devi, Professor in Psychology, SLCA Team of JKSPYM. While addressing the students she stressed upon that drug abuse is a critical public health issue, with recent statistics indicating a sharp rise in addiction rates. She also highlighted the profound effects of substance use not only on the individuals but also their familes, friends and the broader community. The event featured engaging initiatives including a poster-making competition and a visit to the Sub-District Hospital Bishnah. The highlight of the event was the poster-making competition, where young participants showcased their creativity and passion for social causes. The competition encouraged students to express their views on critical issues such as emergency preparedness, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS awareness, and more. 30 students participated in the competition. Rajat of semester 5th bagged the first prize while 2nd and 3rd were bagged by Muskan Bharti of Semester 5th and Muskaan Chandan of Semester 3rd respectively. The competition was adjudged by Prof Shrotika Rajput, HOD Political Science, Dr Sunil Kumar HOD Hindi and Dr Sapna Bhargav Assistant Professor English. ""The NSS Wing, in collaboration with the Eco-Club and the Department of Environmental Science (EVS), observed Ozone Day by organizing a poster-making competition and extempore speeches on the theme of Ozone Day “Advancing Climate Change” today on 17 th September. 2024. The event was successfully conducted under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. Thirteen students participated in the competition, while twenty attendees joined the function. In Poster making students expressed their opinions in the preservation of Ozone Layer and during the extempore session, four students shared their insightful views on preserving the ozone layer. In this event Eight participants delivered insightful speeches on the significance of Hindi in today's world and fifty students attended the function enthusiastically. GDC Bishnah organized a series of activities to create voter awareness among students on the theme of SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. The events commenced with the arrival of the chief guest, Ranjeet Kalra, Election Icon. Following the welcome address, a signature campaign was conducted, in which the chief guest, principal, senior faculty, and other faculty members signed to celebrate the festival of democracy. Afterward, staff and dignitaries took photos at a selfie point. A skit was also performed on the theme of the relevance of voting. A pledge was administered by Dr. Sunil, HOD Hindi, to all present at the special event. Following the pledge ceremony, a volleyball match was played between Team A and Team B. In this event ten students participated and fifty volunteers of electoral Literacy and NSS volunteers attended the function enthusiastically and gain enlightenment on this sensitive issue. On this occasion, a prayer ceremony was held with a ritual focused on the Gular tree (English name: Cluster Fig), considered sacred for centuries. Our forefathers worshipped this tree as a symbol of prosperity and a repellent of evils. Mahatma Buddha is also associated with this tree, regarded as a symbol of enlightenment. The tree's bark and leaves are useful in treating skin problems like boils and insect bites. This day is celebrated to pay tribute to the flora.The students participated in the event with zeal and enthusiasm.
NSS wing in collaboration with the Department of Botany and EVS organised series of event on environment Day with a theme “Land Restoration, desertification and drought resilience” under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. As per the schedule on 3 rd June an inauguration was conducted by making Rangoli on “bicycle day”. Through this artefact the students inspired people to use bicycle as it is a symbol of health and clean nature. On 5 th June, students paid a visit to SKUAST for enlightened themselves with innovation in agriculture and how organic farming can protect the environment from any sort of pollution. During the visit students have enhanced knowledge in variegated domains like Pisciculture, decompose pits, water conservation and soil testing. The last day on 6 th June, plantation drive was carried out. Dr. Shallu Sambyal, Principal of the college, along with the faculty member planted plant saplings to give aesthetic look to college campus. After that, Principal, Staff and students have also administrated a pledge on thematic essence of Day. While addressing the gathering Principal Mam expressed happiness over the observance of the eve and in her concluding remarks, she threw significant light on the importance of celebration of environmental Day. She lauded the students for their enthusiasm and blessed them. In the end vote of thanks was also extended to all faculty members, participants and NSS volunteers. NSS wing in collaboration with the Department of Punjabi and Anti- Drug Club observed “World No Tobacco Day” today on 31 st May 2024 under the able guidance of Prof- Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. In this much awaited event around sixty students participated and showed keen interest in the proceeding of the function. The programme commenced with the welcome address, throwing light on the topic which was followed by the screening of the movie on “Anti- tobacco Day”. After this awareness movie Dr. Anshu Sharma, resource person of the occasion delivered a lecture on Anti-drugs in context of organ donation. As the inspiration lecture over the pledge on “Anti Tobacco Day” was taken by staff and students of the college. While speaking on the occasion Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college exhorted students to abstain from Tobacco and toxin substance and emphasized onto adopt healthy life style. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ratika Sharma Convener, Anti –Drug Club and Dr. Geeta Lakhotra NSS. PO. Dr. Nisar Ahmed Bulla, convener IQAC and other faculty members graced the occasion with their auspicious presence. Towards the end vote of thanks was extended to the dignitaries and students of the college and Higher secondary school.
GDC, Bishnah organized a visit to adopted village Ratnal to commemorate the international Day of Action for women’s health under the patronage of Principal of the college Dr. Shallu Samyal. Village Sarpanch Kamal Singh welcome the team and accommodated them. Dr Rama, a social activist, joint secretary of Arogyabharati NGO was the resource person. In her deliberation she talked at length on “Health Life Style and women’s menstrual hygiene”. During deliberation she specially focused on ailments a woman faces during monthly period, using of sanitary pads, prenatal and post-natal care. After thought provoking lecture the participants discussed their health issues with the doctors and sought the advice of Doctor. Dr. Rama threw light on myths prevalent on menstrual and through the talk she attempted to demystify them. Dr. Rama also cleared the apprehension on menstrual period that a woman is unclean and she must observe certain ordeals during this time. Around forty women participated enthusiastically and assured they will follow the advises of Doctor. Dr. Nisar Ahmad Bhulla, coordinator of IQAC prepared a plan to conduct such visit for providing community service to enlighten women about their health rights . The Department of languages of GDC, Bishnah organized poetry recitation competition today on 23 rd February, 2024 under the banner of International Mother Tongue Day” with gaiety and fervour. The prestigious event commenced with the synchronization of lighting of traditional lamp with melodious Bhajans dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. In this event around 15 students participated and forty attended the function. The young budding poets enthralled the audience with their poems. Prof. Koushal Kiran, Prof,. Shivani Raina and Prof. Kusum acted a jury members. As per the judges decision Kajal scored first, Manish second and Deepanti third position respectively in the competition. Prof, Koushal Kiran, HOD, urdu, apprised the students about the relevance of mother tongue in the present times. Prof. Anju Bala, senior faculty of the college while speaking on the occasion appreciated the students efforts and suggested some improvement for future. The students took her suggestions positively and assured her to imbibe them in their life. In the end the vote of thanks extended to all by Dr. Sunil. HOD, Hindi. NSS Unit of GDC Bishnah in collaboration with Women Development Cell organized a symposium on Indian Women Scientists under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padao as a part of winter camp 2024. Around ten students participated in this symposium and expressed their view points on the said theme. Prof. Hardeep Kour, Dr. Vasudha Chaudhari and Dr. Sapna Bhargav judged the event and declared winners . The first position won by Sonali Of B.A Sem-VI, second by Deepanti of B.A Sem-IV and third by Kajal Of B.A Sem-IV .Dr. Manohar lal, Principal of the college while speaking on the occasion threw light over the thematic perspective of the event. He appreciated the speeches of students by his encouraging words.The entire programme was conducted by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS Programme officer.
NSS Unit of GDC Bishnah organized a visit to Hospital Bishnah where student got awareness lecture on Blood transfusion , tuberculosis and HIV AIDS. Not only this students sojourned in emergency where they saw how to give ABC treatment in case of accidents.After the hospital visit students participated in the round table conversation on the topic “Nasha Mukt Bharat”. This round table discussion was conducted in collaboration with Hr. Secondary Boys Bishnah . During the discussion the NSS Volunteers and students of Hr. Secondary shared their opinion on drugs. Along with the problem students suggested some positive measures to prevent drug abuses cases in society. Dr. Manohar Lal, principal of the college lauded the ideas of students on drugs.The entire programme was conducted under the able administration of Principal Dr. Manohar Lal and Dr. Geeta Lakhotra took the initiative of this visit that comes under winter camp 2024.
A visit to Govt. Hospital Bishnah has been organized by the Red Ribbon Club of GDC Bishnah. The purpose of the visit is to aware the students about the various facilities provided by the Hospital. More than 30 students have participated in the visit. The students visited to different wards of the hospital along with the team of the hospital who provide the information about the first AID and emergency facilities provided by the hospital. The visit was ended with the interaction of the students with Dr. Nirupum Gupta and Dr. Niteeka. They share the important information about the topics HIV/AIDS, TB and blood donation with the students. They also talk about the various initiative taken by the Ministery of Health and Family Welfare to accelerate the country’s progress towards TB elimination by 2025. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Manohar Lal, Principal of the college. The whole program was organized and coordinated by Dr. Ratika Sharma and Dr. Ashma Gupta , Nodal officers of Red Ribbon Club.
